The most fundamental part of a renaissance themed wedding is the actual setting. If there is an older church or some other ideal outdoor setting that you know of, then that would be a great place to have the ceremony.  During the renaissance, couples would not have been marrying in a fancy hotel or other commercial setting.  Things were simpler back then although no less important.

Ribbons and simple flower bouquets will make good decorations as those are the types of things that would have been used back then.    Just imagine the types of things that people in that era would have had access to.  Look for photos online from movies where these kinds of weddings had taken place.  Use them to generate ideas for yours.

You will want to choose wedding apparel that fits the period also. The bride may wish to wear a long dress with bell sleeves and an intricate bodice.  Something that looks like a corset is beautiful.  The modern ones are far more comfortable than the ones of those days.

The groom could be a little trickier as many men don’t wish to wear leggings or tights.  An opulent coat with a thick brocade pattern would be appropriate.   Bridesmaids and groomsmen will have completely different colored outfits.

How great would it be if you could convince your guests to dress in the period attire as well?  When you are sending out your invitations, seal each one with a wax seal.  Have a stamp made that shows your family crest.

To actually capture a true feeling of the renaissance period try to stimulate the senses of your guests.   You can do this by giving your guests small sachets of lavender or some other fragrant herb. Attach some folklore or fairy tale to it as well. Play music that some minstrels might have played back then by hiring Celtic or medieval musicians to play for the reception.

A feast of roasted pig or lamb would additionally be applicable.  That is the sort of dinner that might have been served back then. You don’t have to eat it straight off the bone like they did back then.   Serve Ale or Wine with dinner.  By getting your guests a little tipsy, you will convince more of them to play the part.
